Levin Boys' Band Entertains With Concert

A disappointing attendance greeted the Levin Boys' Military Band and its assisting artistes at the concert held in the Century iHall -on Thursday night. It was jthe first of three such presentations 'which the band is arranging dur'ing the year for its assoeiate mem- | bers, who are admitted free of j charge, and for citizens who enjoy ! a musical evening. I The programme was both varied and entertaining, and was greatiy ienjoyed by those present. In eonjsequence the band's next function 1 will undoubtedly draw a larger iaudience. i In opening the proceedings, Mr. D. Collier introduced the band's patron, Mr. J. W. Hayfield, who was ;acting as its' conductor for the evening, the normal conductor, Mr. ;M. H. Boyce playing with the band on this occasion. r The programme opened with the imarch, "Sussex by the Sea," and l"Sun of My Soul" rendered by the band. Vocal solos, "Sunshine of Your Smile" and "Irish Lullaby," con'tributed hy Mrs. Harrington, { proved popular. Special interest j centred round the band's next item, i"Qui Va La," which was composed jby Mtj Hayfield during World War I. :• MfV Eagar was applianded for i two vocal solos, "Chu Chin Chow" and "The Fuschia Tree/' A song, ("Feather Queen," by the bandjfol(lowed. Miss Munro's renditioh of | "Garden of Happiness" brought | well-merited applause and as an . encore she sang "Meadow jSweet." Aceompanied by the band, 'Master B. Harvey's cornet solo was ' pleaslng. i Vocal trios by Messrs. H. Johnson, !t. Harvey and M. Rikihsne were i appreciated, wnile Miss P. Robinjson and her piano accordian were ;a bright diversion. One of the toighlights of "the evening was a ;clarionet duet by Mr. Boyce and j Mr, R. Wilton, of Otaki. A novelty 'item by Mr. D. Collier, aceompanied jby Mr. D. Rikihana, was a favour- ! ite, following which Mr. Rikihana ! rendered' a pleasing vocal solo and "a comedy sketch. A number by the tband concluded "the programme. ( The evening terminated with the dispensing oi" supper to the audience. *
