There was! a large s gatherihg of members and visitors at the 16th birthday eelebrations pf . the Uocal hranch of . the Women's Division of Federated/ Farmers in Laurvig's Hall on Mopday afterrioon. . The president (Mrs. K. Mitchell) was in the chair and welcomed visitors ftom. , Palmerston •'Nprth, -Levin,1 Moutoa ahd: Shannon. " S'even loundatioh' merfibers" pf the branch were espeeially ' welcorne'd; and- presented with floraf sprays. • Mrs. MitcheU took the opportunity to * express thanks to Mesdames L. H. Best and C. Guerin who had-been responsible for forming the branch and had carried it on throughout the past 16 years, Both had done an inestimable amount of work in numerous ways and now that they wished to vacate office, members were pleased to express their gratitude and ask each to accept a gift as a token of esteem. Mrs. Best and Mrs. Guerin each replied, saying they had enjoyed their associatipn vyith the division and expectexi to continue i'n it for many years to come. • Much enjoyed items we're given by Miss Munford (pianoforte solos), Mrs. W. Bain (songs) and Margaret Mills (recitatioh) . Competition winners during the a'fternoon were: Tearing the pig from paper Mrs., Gage (Levin) ; money questlons, Mesdames Quinlan an'd D. Roberts. Point prizes won during the year were presented as followS: Gooking, Mrs. Mills; sewing, Mesdames Guerin and Mills' (equal) ; flowers, Mrs. Best. The ceremony of cutting the birthday cake was performed by Mrs. Field, the pro\uncial president, of Palmerston North, who complimented the branch on its good progress. throughout the years and wished it many hap'py returns. Miss Salisbury, the matron on the Women's Division rest ho'me at' Awapuni, gave an interesting talk on the work at the home, commenting on special cases and, mentioning that to date 40 Maori girls had been trained- in housecraft. The division had kept in touch with all the traihees who had gone out frbm the home, and Miss Salisbury gave an' eXcellent report of the good work the girls were doing. - Mrs. .Field Aater vstated that a recent Visitor to New Zealand from the Associated - Gouncil ' of the Women of the World headquarters in London had asked for a detailed report of Miss Salisbury's methods so that a similar scheme of rest home management ■ could bfe introduced into England. " Sprays and novelty prizes were awarded.to all who had help'ed with ; the programme, and the branch was in turn thanked- and. congratulated by the many visitors, among whom were Mrs. Field "and Miss Salisbury (Palmerston North); Mesdames L'eft/ H. Easton and Gage (Levin) ; S' Barber and F. O. Burtt (Moutoa Divisioh)'; J. Easton and Bovis (Shannon Red' Cross): C. Guerin And 'Quinlan (Women's Section of the R.S.A.) ; L. Wilson and ■ C. Tremewan (Plunket Society) ; and Mrs. R. Roberts (Shannon Women's Institute) .
