General Eisenhower has replied to those who have been urging that he be numinaled bv the Demoeratic conven1 ion for the Presideney by stating tonight: 11 I caunot identify myself with any political party and eould not acce])i noinin'ation for any public office or parth-ipule in partisan ])olitical contcsts. " He said his views were identical with those he expressed in .Tanuary when he was mentioned as a possibility for Republican nomination. General Eisenhower made the statement so that there might be "no possible. rooni for doubt in the mind of any interest ed American. ' '
