Also . well feceived was a qiiartette of. ybung Wdmen from Petone.' pianist for: the' evening "was Mrq.'D. Douglas,' Who is wefi-known in Wellington musicai circles, and is one of the ieading piamsts of that city. Band-1 master Dutton, who is also- a solo cornetist, gave several items. During. the evening supper was served by the women of tne loCal corps and a beautiful cake, made by Mrs. A. C. Kennerley and iced and decorated by Mr. Hennerly, was cut and served. A march by the band from the hall to the post offide and baek preCeded the programme, and erCated much interest. I ' On Sunday morning the homes of loCal persons known to be ill were visited, the band piaying hymns putside each of the residences, this gesture being deeply apprecinted. Ilie morning service in the had was ' Conducted by Major A. Montgomery, Ieading Salvation evangeiist from ' Auckland, and previousiy . of Canada. The highlight of this serViCe was the receiving ihtb the membership of the Salvation Army Of five young persons. Major j Montgomery chose as the subject of his address "The Secret of Success." j ,Bath Street was the centre of attraction on Sunday afternoon, iwhen the Petone Band played selections outside the hall from 2 to 2.45 1 p.m. After this programme, which Was witnessed by a very large gath-( ,ering, all moved ipto the hall for the thanksgiying service arid pfo-, , gramme, and so great was thej crowd that many were unable to. obtain seats. - | Once again the band played, and i for ' one hymn, "Abide With Me," i Mr. G. R. Lester, till recently band- 1 master of the Levin Municipal feand, led the visiting band. Am .Open air service .was conducted by. Ithe band after a march through ; Oxford Street on Sunday night. -At | [the evening service the Mayor and: 'Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Burtiekifiv Were' present, togetlien with mahy of the ieading busines& people idnd residehts of the town. A' solo icornet number was piayed during ifche service by Bandmaster Dutton ! and also, by special request, items Were heard from Mrs. Pengelly. A Iafge Growd was again present and 'stayed till the meeting concluded at 10 p.m. Monday afternoon saw the celebrationS brought 'to p. conclusion with a special afternoon -for the women of the various • Ghristian organisations. Mrs. H. B. Burdekin. 'was on the platfornv as gfiest, together with Mrs. H. S.-Kings. A solo vdcal item was rendered by Mrs. G. Bishop, of Ohau, and an elociitionary item by Miss Joy Muirhead, of Levin, | The address Was given by Mrs. i Montgomery, who spoke on her iwork as a welfare and probationary offlcer of the Salvation Army'in : Auckland. The speaker who has been* connected with this work in Auckland for many years may be ibetter known as Adjutant Hart, and her work in connection with the Police Couft in Auckland is widely known.
