The editors of Burke7s Peerage, who are n'ow preparing their first edition since the war, are endeavouring to trace a branch of the family of the first Baron Lvveden of Lyveden, in Northamptonshire, which bstablished itself m New Zealand 50 years ago. A descend ilnt of this New Zealand branch of the fainily is now believed to be heir presumptive of the title. The family name of the Barons Lyvfeden is Vernon and the New Zealand branch of the family was established by G'ecil Sydney Archibahl Vernon who was segond son of the fourth and voungest son of the first Baron. Cecil Rvdney Archibald Vernon is known to have married a Miss . The B'arony of Lyveden was created in 1859 whett Robhrt Perdy Smith, of Cheam, Rurrev, who was Judge Advocatte General l'or India, was raisea to the PeCragfe. He later changed his name by deed poll to Vernon, the maiden nhnle of his wife. The family is related to the Earls of Upper Ossorv and the Marquess of Stafford. London solicitors who have been investigating the matter, are unable to ascert'ain tlie wberfeabouts in New Zealand of the Verhoil fainily.
