COMPROMISE OFFER FROM MR. BARNES
AUCKLAND, July 4. A" basis for the settlement of 'the Moujitpark dispute was outlined by the president of the Auckland Water side Workers' Union, Air. Barnes, in the Mayor '3. room follow'ing the priblie, meeting wdiich he addressed in the Towji Hall tonight, and it was immediately communieated to the Prime Alinister, Mr. Fraser, by the Mayor, Mr. Allum, in a telephone conversation. Briefly -it was asked that the agreement entered into by the Waterfront Industry Commission last March, should be honoured. As a eompromise the union offered to lift the Mountpart hatches 'with ropo slings in a number to be agreed upon aiid asked for an immediate inquiry into the whole question, the inquiry to be presided over by some well known and re'spected Auckland citizen. Mr. Barnes said the union would aceept the decision of that? person. The Prime Minister told the Mayor in the telephone conversation that he Would hand a telegram from the Mayor pn the subject to the Minister of Labour, Mr. MeLagan, tomorrow morn-, ing. . .
