Breweries and Control Of Hotels
AUCKLAND, June 30. Proposals of the Licensing Commission that breweries should be nationalised, were not likely to be part of any licensing legislation, said the chairman of directors, Mr. L. J. Stevens, at the annual meeting ' of Dominion Breweries, Ltd. The immediate concern of the directors was to resist any attempts to encroaeh on the right of brewery eompanies to participate in the controi and management of iieensed hotels. The possibility that attempts might be made by legislation to divorce eompanies from that right, was viewed with concern." Any sueh move would be eontrary to public welfare, " added Mr-. Stevens. It had been proved conclusively .that the company 's manugeinent and controi of licensed premises provided amenities which met ?ith the approval and satisfaction of ;he travelling and general public. In these eireumstances any interference with the existing status-was absolutely mwarranted.
