Hostile Reception For Union Officials
AUCKLAND, June 21. No-confidence in the officials of tlie Auckland Drivers ' Union lias been expressed in a resolution carried oy union members employed by the largest carrying iirm in the city. Actualiy the ineeting was cailed by union officials to counter the move inside the union to remove the sitting officials from office. At another meeting of unionists employed by one of the largest Auckland lirms, a union official met a hostile reception, but no vote was taken. Meanwhile, the campaign to remove the officers, the executi.ve members, the trustees, and the organisers is gainiiig ground. No special meeting has been cailed by the union in response to the recent requisition by a section of the membership for a meeting in the Town Hall to consider changing the officials, but two rnore requisitions are ' being forwarded to the union offices today. The union rules provide that if tlie secretary fails to call within seven days a properly requisitioned meeting, any'member of the union may do so. Before taking such a step the sponsors of the first requisition have to conimunicate with the Labour Department in Wellington aslcing wliy the union has not cailed the special meeting. Oue of the prinicipal organisers of the campaign to rid the union of the pro-Communist influences holds a certificate of loyalty to the union dating baek to 1913.. The organisers call for the appointment of interim trustees to mauage the uniou's all'airs until a postal ballot elects the officers.
