" A guard of fionour oi two olficirg and 1QQ other ranks, under the command of Captaip F. Rennie, tggetber with the Band of the Wellington Regiment, under tbe bandmaster, Captain L. Baker, were mounted in the space opposite ihe steps to tbe main entrance of Parliament, and aiter tbe GQvernbr-Generai toox the Royal galute be m°ved forward to inspeqt tbe guard. Meanwhiie, Lady Freyberg was welcomed by tbe clerk of Parliament, Mr. C, M. Bothamley, and esqorted to ber seat in the Legislatiye Council, where she was presented with a bouquet 'by the Acting Speaker of the Council, Hon. B. Martin. When His Excellency had inspected the guard he was met by tne Black Rod, Captain D. I. C. Bryan, and conducted to . the Legislatlve Councii, where he took his seat on the dais, The Governor-General then eommanded tbe Black Rod to summon tbe Hoqse of Representatives an'd .members entered the chamber behind their Speaker, Hon. R. McKeen. After the speech from the Throne Was rea'd, Their Excellencies heaaed the procession from the chamber to the main sreps, from where the Governor-General took the Royal salute. After the fir'st six bars of the National Anthem were played, the qeremony concluded and the ViceRegal party departe'd for Government House.
