June Meeting Of Shannon W.D.F.F.

With a sunny day, a blazmg flre and a large attendance of members the June meeting of the Shannon branch of the W.D.F.F. was -most enjoyable. Mrs. K. Mitche'll presided and welcomed three new .members, Mesdames F. C. Braaey, H. Scott. and R. Lester. The tea hostesses were Mesaame's L. H. Best and J. P. Allerby. a motlon of sympathy was passed with sufferers in the recent floods. Owing to the travelling distance involved it was 'decided that the birthday party on July 5 should take place in Laurvig's Hall in'stead of at the president's home, as was first intended. Mrs. A. E. Burling, as a 'delegate from the division, reported on the meeting of the war memorial hall committee attended by delegates from other organisations. Mrs. K. Mitchell (president) and Mrs. K. Thomson (secretary) were present at the inter-provincial meeting in Wanganui, and also with Mrs. C. Guerin aird Mrs. U. Dujany at the annual provincial meeting in Palmerston North. Mrs. Mitche'il told members of the business transacte.d at these meetings and stated that Mrs. Guerin and herself had been elected to the committee of the latter body.

Members were asked to brmg ld each for friendship to the July meeting, which is to be paid over to the A.C.W.W. organisation. It was decided to expen-d tlie money in hand on parcels for Britam, which will be dispatched immediately. The 'day set down for tne flower show was Saturday, September 18. A demonstration on fair isle knitting was given by Mrs. A. R. Mills, and Mrs. G. W. Munford spoke on her eight months' visit to England la'st year, dealing mainly with the food situation as she found it both in town and farmers' homes. No doubt was left in anyone's mind that parcels containing fats and soaps were especially needed, and a cake sent in a sealed tin was most welcome. Both the la'dies were thanked and pre'sented with floral sprays. There was a good display of articles for children's wear in support of the Save the Children campaign. The results of the- competitions were as follows: — Three pikelets: Mrs. H. B. Williams 1, Mrs. R. J. Miers 2, Mrs. L. H. Best 3. Darned feock: Mrs. R. J. Miers 1, Mrs. E. Barber 2, Mrs. L. H. Best 3. Flowering shrub: Mrs. K. Mitchell 1, Mesdames D. Home-Douglas ' an'd E. Barber (equal) 2, Mesdames L. H. Best, C. Guerin and U. Dujany (equal) 3. It was decided that articles in the sewing competition should be 'donated to the division and be sold at the end of the year. Competitions for the July meeting are for six violets, jam turnover tart and chiid's apron made from, a flower bag.
