Crew Refuse To Take Ship To Sea
CHRISTCHURCH, June 20. The Nemiskam Park is still lying ig the stream in Lyttelton harbour'though she was due to sail for Melbourne og Saturday morning. Some of the crevy deolifted to go aboard and take the ship to sea. The Nemiskam Park was taken oqt ipto the stream by a tug at noon yesterday. The ship, which has a phosphates cargo for Melbourne from Makatea, visited Lyttelton to bunker. Aecording to some of. the crew, there was trouble ashore at Papette and some of them were put on board by armed gendarmes and soldiers. It is said q high French official was pelted with missiles wjien he went down to the ship to protest at the behaviour of somb *of the ere-w:. A repoyter was told by a, spokesman yesterday that the men on shore would not rejoin the ship be^ cause, after being logged and having deductions made from their pay at Pappete, they had had further deductions made while they were at' Lyttelton.
