OVERWHELMED BY FALL OF EARTH

GISBORNE, June 20. Covered by a fall of rubble from a s'lip on the Waimata Valley Road, 20 miles from Gisborne, on Saturday after noon, George Arthur JTaekson, aged 49, married, of Waihirere, suffered injuries from which he died on the way to hospital. Mr. Jackson was working with two other Cook County employee* clearing a slip. A eompanion savv the rubble start moving high on the steep face and in dashing for safety called a warning to his workmates. Mr. Jackson bolted across the road and was overwhelmed by the debric and buried I'jut tlie others reached safety by run ning at right angles. His companioiis dug him out in a gravely injured condition and rushed him to hospital ii. a car but he died on the way.
