EMERGENCY POWERS EXTENDED
Reeeived Friday, 10 a.m. SINGAPORE, June 17. - After an emergency meeting of the ^xecutive council of the Federation of Malaya', at Kuala Lumpur today, it was decided to extend the emergency powers to cover the whole Federation, says the Straits Times. . The emergency powers at present apply only to one area in Perak and four areas in Johore. - ' The newspaper adds that all police leave in the Federation has been cancelled and European officers at present on leave in England are being reealled by air. Twenty Chinese bandits tonight attacked a police station at Jeram Choh, on the Pb.ntian Road. The police are rushifig reinforcements to the area. Reuter's Singafpore correspondent states that 46 Communists have been arrested at Kuala Lumpur since the roundlip began at midnight with a raid on the Communist newspaper Min Cheng Pau where 20 were detained and the building sealed.
