League Of Mothers Hold Monthly Meeting

There was a very good attendance at the June meeting of the League of Mothers, presided over by Mrs. C. Nichol. A Special welcome was extended to Miss Bowen, who was present for the first time since her illness. Mrs. Lawry and Mrs. Nichol were appointed to attend the Y.W.C.A. committee meeting on June 28. As the next meeting is to be the league 's birthday party, each member was asked to bring a friena. The guest speaker is 'to be Mrs. J. W. Andrews, of Lower Hutt. : • The speaker for .the afternoon was Mrs. Jensen, oi Waikanae Beach, who gave an 'interesting address on 'the Franz .Joseph Glacier, the speaker being a very competent authority, havlng arranged tours to the glacier at various times. • She is at present organising a tour for July 2. The speaker described a tour from Nelson by bus. She said that New Zealand glaciers were unique in tnat they were so accessible. The Fox Glacier was approached through marvellous ' bu'Sh country. The speaker -also referrod to the beaury of the Franz Joseph Memorial Church, and also of the "indescrioable" blue of the ice of the glaciers as'seen from an aeroplan'e. Photographs of the glaciers were then handed round for inspection. The meeting concluded with a hearty vote of 'thanks to the speaker, following which Mrs. Wilson gave the thought for the aay.
