First Qualifying Round Of Championships The first of three qualifjfing medal rounds in the Levin Golf Club's championships was played under excellent conditions on Saturday last. A spiendid muster of 60 players saw very indifferent scoring made by the majority of competitors, but a keen tussle for first place resulted in four players, E. W. Claik, J. Corbishley,, N. Ton Dog Trophies After doing the seemingly im'possible a fortnight ago in defeating the then reigning champions, A. E. Hastedt and O. C. Lagor had to acknowledge defeat last weekend at the hands of S. C. Franklin and B. J. Eagar, who won by the wide margin of six and five. Whether the new champions will be capable of again showing such good form in iiiture . challenges remains to ■ be seen, and J. Corry and T. J. CouLie, the next pair on the waiting "list, are quietiy confident that their challenge will prove a success. ■ t* D.C.L. Cup Draw Entries for the D.C.L'. Cup proved very satisfactory., when they cl'osed last weekehd, no fewer than 52 members having signifiea their intention of competing. King's Birthday Successes Members competed in the various toamaments throughout the district over the King's Birthday weekend.

Visiting Otaki with several other club members, D. P. Todd scored a very meritorious win in the medal round with ? score of 83 — 14 — 69. Dave Todd is one of the older playing members of the Levin Club, and fceing one of the smafi band who has regularly attended play on the local links throughout both good and bad times, his success from this angle alone is well received among ah local players. Journeying to Shannon, where the BuckJey Club held its annual tournament, a small band did not, L'eturn empty handed, S. F. Atkins, ! L. S* Carmichael and J. A. C. After having recorded the best gross score from a field of 60 players, E. W. Clark deservedly won. the net medal round on Saturday afternoon last. Classed as one of th$ hardest club men to defeat in match play, Clark has strucK lorm at a most opportune time, with handicap and championship play looming ahead,. and he should again prove difficult to defeat, partieularly in the latter. To the three players who jointly acted as runners-up, congratulations are due, for their play has shown ' considerable improvement of late.
