Fire Brigade's Activities Reported On

In his annual report presented to the Otaki Volunteer Fire Brigade recently, the secretary, Mr. O. B. Nilsson, first complimented mem-' Ibers on their attendance at fires, practices and meetings, and tlie manner in which the work of the ibrigade was carried out. Thirty!six musters had been held, with an .excellent average attendance. One jresignation had been received, as 'also had that of the messenger; '.these vacancies had been prompC-ly filled, and the brigade was at full i strength. Ten alarms had been janswered during the year, one of 'which had been a malicious false alarm. Of the nine fires attended, the only major one was at the Telegraph 'Hotel, and the secretary referred in glowing terms to the manner in which, in the space of only a few minutes, this outbreak had been attacked with three leads, one through the front door, one up the back stairs, and one via the roof , the promptness ' and determination of memfcers being the prime factor in literaliy pushing the fire back and confinng it to the upper storey until suppressed in very ■ short time indeed. i: The finances of the brigade were ,, reported to be in a very healthy . state, and a payment of £30 had been made to the Otaki War L -Memorial Fund. The brigade had ; also sent food parcels overseas. L Thanks were expressed to the : many good friends who had forr warded donations to the brigade's funds during the year, and special reference was made to the hospi- • tality of the residents of Rangiuru in providing entertainment and jr.efreshment for members following a call in that locality. : v _
