Probation For Theft Of Clothing
— . i Charged with the theft of van- 1 ous articles of clothing and other j goods valued at 30s, Ivan William McDonald, of Otaki, appeared before Mr. H. J. Thompson, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court, Otaki, on Thursday, and was admitted so . probation for six months. An order was made for the return of the stolen articles.- ■ Ccnducting the case for the , police, Constable W. Calwell toid ; the court that a complaint had ! been received by the police, and on • a certain evening someone had ' been seen leaving the property of a local resident. The person had not j been recognfced, but defendant's bicycle had been found, together with the articles produced in court. The articles were practically worthless and the rnan lived something of a rebluse life. Constable Calwell suggested that he be kdmitted to probation for a short period. The defendant could not understand why he had. taken the goods, said Mr. B. H. Rhodes, who appeared for McDonald. It was his first offe'nce-. "I hope this will be a lesson to him not to "do the same thing again," commented the magistrate when admitting defendant to probation. .
