A Jewish mortar barrage 70 minutes before the official eeasefire damaged a Christian church and Arab hospital in the old city, killed a nursing orderly and vounded two Armenians worshipping at Tass. The Israeli army fonght at Latrnii to tlie last to gain every ineh possible. Arab sonrees said the Jews at Latrun -left 100 dead' on the battlefield. Jewish prisoners included nore than a dozen women. Reuter's Ammaii correspondent states that Jewish fire killed an Arab legionnaire near the Damascus Gate at Jerusalem one hour after the eeasefire was effective, The Arai) climbed out of a trench and was hit by a burst of machinegun fire. The Arabs are making a report to Count Bernadotte as a violation of the eeasefire agreement.
; Reports from all squrces indicated that the eeasefire had been observed all over Palestine. Ceasefire orders issued in the Arab capital s had an immediate effee't. According to Twefik Abdul Hoda I'asha, Prime Minister of Transjordan, Count Bernadotte ! told the Arabs he had powers to scrap all past United N tions' reeomn endaf ions .tui decioions and make an atten.pt. to I'each a new solution. Count Bernadotte promised that should the Jews and Arabs agree on a solution the United Nations' support would be a mere formality.
A Syrian communique issued at Damascus said the Syrian Armyyesterday captured JUeshmar Hayarden ten miles north of the Sea of Galilee with Jewish casualties numhering 100 dead. 200 wounded and more than 100 prisoners. A Jewish Agency spokesman in Jerusalem claimed that the Arab decision to accept the eeasefire order was a definite political victory for the Jews. Reports from the Arab capitals, however, indicate that the Arabs generally do not expeet a satisfactory agree- , ment to result from the truce Thev point out that thev are still uftwilling to aecept the partition ing of Palestine and demands forj n Jewish State. Pasha) said the Arabs were still; ready to aecept Jews of Palestine nationality into a unified State in which immigration would be c.ontrolled by legislation.
