BRITAIN CANNOT RECOGNISE ISRAEL.
Reeeived Friday, Midnight. LONDON, June 11. " Mr. N. H. Lever (Labour) in the Comnions on the motion for the adjournment declared it was the Government 's duty to recognise the State of Israel. The (iuibble about the legal status of Israel had 110 moi'al foundations. IMr. Mayhew (Foreign UnderSecretary) said the recognition of Israel at present would be a positive act of political intervention. It is learned that Count Bernadolte, the United Nations medi ator, has asked for British ships and aircraft and more American offieers to observe the Palestine truce. says the United Press correspondent at Lake Sueeess. The disclosure has aroused grave fears among United Nations offi cials for the sueeess of the trueras it is eonsidered certain that Israel 's two extremist groups would reaet violently to the reappearanee of British forces.
