Alleviating Flood Troubles At Rangiuru
* "FLOOD ViCTIM."
. (To the Editor) Sih— On reaaing tne Otaki Borough Council s esrima les for the coming year, I note that a sum of , £400 is allowed for the provision of • flood gates at Rangiuiu. I question the rignt of the council to expend this sum on what, I innny ueneve, is ourside the borough. If the flood gates are not j instalied correctiy, then we shall: have a "Lake Rangiuru" instead of a ' dairying area as at present. 1 1 have lived' thereabouts for 20 years and have a 60-year knowledge of land draining. I know that if the Wanonu totream bea is not cieared • and stopbanks erected to prevent the overflows which cause the flooding, the position will toecome much 1 worse, wnereas £100 spent at the Waitahu Stream wouid stop the floods at Rangiuru and Tasman Roads.. The £400 would be saved. 1 trust that an engmeer will be . consuited beiore £400 is wasted and tloo'dmg becomes worse. Yours etc.. ' v
