Building Without Permit At the last meeting of the Shannon Borough Council, the attention of the council was arawn to tne fact that a. building is under construction in the 'borough without i,he necessary permit having been first obtamed. lt was decided to wnte to the offender, pointing oue, that the council did not view the breach favourabiy and requesting that a permit be^obtained before continuing further with the work. Foxton Rates Decreased Alter denberations la'oting three hours, the Foxton Borough Council finalised its estimates for the fcnsumg year. They were to provide lqr a rate of ls 9d. a. decrease of ld over that for last year, but it has to be taken into consideration that the borough has just undergone a revaluation, which will have the elfect of increasing ratepayers' commitments. Foxton is rated on the unimproved rating system. Water Supply Loan Repiyrng to the Shannon Borough Councii's applicatlon for a water sup'piy loan of £1500, the secretary of the Local Government Loans Board stated that the proposal wouxd be investigated by the Puhlic Works and Health Departmencs and the irispector of Fire Br.gaaes on behalf of the Loans Board, and it would be appreclated if the council would make available to them any further information which they might need. State House Drainage The district. supervisor of State Housing Gonstruction in a letter to the Shannon "Borough Council,, advi'sed that it had been decided to install one septic tank with the soak pit reeently put down at the State house units at the corner of Ballance and Margaret Streets. The other houses would each be provided with ciosets, which had been found satisfactory at Bulis over a period of several years. The department was not entirely sati'sfied that the pit reeently put down would provide ample soakage, but was prepared to give it a trial. The experience at Bulls justifled the department trying this system in Shannon. The council resolved that Urs. B. Clayton, V. J. Bateman, the town clerk (Mr. J. T. Bovis) the Member of Parliament for the district (Mr. M. H. Oram) and a representatlve from the local branch of the R.S.A., wait on the department to diseu'ss the drainage system, and also ascertain the reason for the delay in compieting the four units under constructicn in Shannon.
