Dancing Pupils' Successes At the recent Hutt and Berham-l pore National dancing competiti-ons, j pupils of Miss Loma Hepworth competed. ' Jack Learmonth gained fchree firsts, one second, a v.h.c. and three medals, while Verna Fenton annexed two firsts and six v.h.c. awards. Stamp Design Entries One hundre'd copipetitors in all parts of the Dominion submitted 400 separate entries in the Post Office competitipn for . stamp designs to commemorate the Royal visit next year. The designs are confidenfcial r;ntil judged by the panel spt up by the PostmasterGeneral, Mr. Hackett.

He ha'd .caught two perch, but was ordere'd by a ranger to put them back. Ilelp for Blood Bank Iri response to an urgent appeal from the Palmerston North Hospital, 48 Levin residents attended at the district nurse's rooms last evening and made a donation of blood to the hospital's blood bank. The Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce has keenly interestpd itself in the maintenance of the hlopd bank, and those present last evening inclu'ded 17. of its members who had volunteered to asslst the service. Coincidenee The long arm of coincidenee stretched out in a Takapuna cinerna visited for the flrst time by recent arrivals from the United Kingdom. The couple saw in a "Guess What" short, a kilted figure looking up at a street name. There was a close-up of the face of the man and also that of a young woman beside hira. The couple recognised two of their best friendg. whpm they last saw in Glasgow, where the film was made, and who are now in Canada, to which they emigrated several years ago.. Rail Subsidy on Hay The assistance with railage costs which the Government reeently dgcided to grant for the^ transport of hay will apply to consignments railed to stqtions in the Manawatu and Horo whenua distripts. Advice to this effect has been receiyed by the Manawatu provincial executive of Federate'd Farmers, said the president, Nfr. H. J. McLeavey, yesterday. The Minister of Agricplture, Mr. Cullen has explained that farmers should pay the railage costs and claim through local offieers of the Department of Agriculture fo.r refunds pf charges beyond j 100 miles.
