Concert Aids Children's Appeal
An excellent concert programme, arranged by the local "Aid theChildren" committee was presented by yisiting and local artists in the' Druids' Hali on Thui;sday evening. The public of the district attended in large numbers and were not slow to acknowledge the high stan'dard ' of the entertainment presented: The programme opened with the New Zealand National Anthem, followed by a vocal solo by Mr. Freeman, of Palmerston North. Miss- Mary King rendered a recitation and a Magri trio comprising the Misses Whiti and Mr. McGregor, of Opiki, entertained with a selection of Maori numbers. A vocal solo by Mr. F. O. Burtt was followed by violin numbers by Mrs. Chittenden, of Palmerston North. Miss Rauhihi entertained with a Piano solo and Miss Sutherlan-d, of Palmerston North, presented a vocal solo. Miss V. Munford followed with a pianoforte solo and Mrs. Sherriffs, of Longburn, entertained with a vocal solo. The first half of the programme concluded with . the pres-entation of . a scene from -'-!The Taming of the Shrew" by Miss Lois Lind and Mr. R. -Herbert. The accompanists were Mrs. F. O. Burtt and Miss Edna Eyre, of Palmerston North. Following the interval, a local Maori concert party delighte'd with an hour and a-half of songs, dances and hakas. At an opportune time the Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald, expressed the thanks of the committee to the entertainers, especially those who had travelled long distances to assist, and to the public for their support. A short dance programme followed the completion of the concert.
