In spite of the weather, those wh'o attended the meeting reported' a . good day's entertainment, but in some , cases, • very unprofitable. : Flood Harvests Gathered Although there are severai floods and freshes in the Manawaru River each year there seems to be an everlasting suppiy of driftwood coming down with each fiood. The heavy flood of last week, being the first of tne year, brought with it a very large suppiy of wood, and residents all along the river have been out to reap the harvests. Some excellent firewoo'u has been gathered along the Moutoa stopbanks, while the -Foxton- Beach residents are fortunate in obtainlrig a good suppiy . withQut having the same worries .as • the Moutoa settlers. • • v. ^ Jigger and .Truclc Collih'e( ' It is reported from Foxton that' a railway motor jigger, , used by the Foxton line maintenance gang, and a motor truck owned by Mr. S. The surface gang was on its way to repair flood 4amage, and the truck wa's coming out of a property on the. east side of the line when. the collision occiirred. Mr. S. Holden, a -railway p'mployee, suffered hea-d ipjuries, but he-;'was able to return!-;to,his home aftffr receiving medical attention at tlie Palmerston North Hospital, Mr. Holden is well-known locally.
