DELUGE IN TASMANIA.
HOBART, May 29. The worst fiood for fifty years has caused thousands of pounds worth of daniage and ruined a large part of the apple crop in the Huon district of Southern Tastnania. Ilescners had to eva-euate nine families from their homes in the Derwent and Huon Valleys. Almost incessant rain since Monday has thawed snow on the highlands, and caused widespread flooding of the Huon and Derwent Rivers. Warniijgs are being broadcast every six hours to ships appi^oaehing Bass Strait where gales have been blowing for four days. The small New Zealand trader Huia is several days overdue, but 110 concern is i'elt for her yet.
