WELLINGTON, May 20. An inquiry was held today by tlie Wellington District Coinmittee to hea," charges against John MeDonald, farmer, of Pirinoa, and James Alexander Brown, hotelkeeper, of Tauherenikau, in connection with a race meeting held by the Wairarapa Racing Club at Tauherenikau on April 5, 1947. After consideration of evidence relating to the charge against MeDonald, the committee.-' found him guilty of an offence under Rule 338 (1) (B). MeDonald was disqualifled for ten years and was ordered to pay £20 to wards the cost of the hearing. The committee found there was insufftcient 'evidence, to support the charge against Brown. ' Rule 338 relates to a corrhpt practice and section (1) (B) refers to the owner 01* other person liaving chargo of or access to any horse, corruptlv ac cepting any money present, share in a bet or other benefit. The hearing related to the running of the Ferry Haek Handicap won by True Friend at tlie Wairarapa Easter meeting* - last year. True Friend was then owned by MeDonald, but since has been sold. • A life disqualifieation was imposed on another party by the Wellington District Committee in August last, following inquiries into the running of the same nvee.
