Must Have Materials If Production Wanted
AUCKLAND, Mav 17. The serious position developiug because of the continued withholding of iniport licences for materials necessarv to nmintain production and employment in factories had again been stressed in diseussion with Mr. Nash by a delegation from the New Zealand Manufacturers ' Federation, said the president of the federation (Mr. S. H. Hunter) on liis retum from Wellington today. "On behalf of ihe manufacturers, we accepted assuranco by hlr. Nasli that au exainination of tho' ' positibu was being prosecuted witli ui'gent-y and that a decision mig'ht be re'aChed very soon." Mr. Hunter added that wlien a delegation again meets the Minister it liopes to be' given an opportunity' to advance proposals for ending the holdup in industry. He said that Mr. Nash again stressed the request by tlie Britisli Govemment to New Zealauil to endeavour to live within her income insofar as imports from Britain were concerned. "It is obvious, " Mr. Hunter added, "that the spending of our national income is to be increasingly scrutinised, but let there be no doubt that we. cannot niaintain production without the uecessary materials, and any enforced restriction of production must inevitable mean reductioii in eni])Ioyinent. ; '
