Boy's Treatment In Hospital Criticised

AUCKLAND, May 17. Medical attention received by hps late son was strongly criticised by Mr, L. H. Young, of Mount Roskill, in . a letter to the Auckland Hospital Board last nionth. The boy, Leonard Barry Young, died in the Auckland Hospital on February 23 and the father's letter to the Board led to an inquiry by its investigating committee, Evidence obtained in the inquiry was before the Board at its meoting tonight. The father said that after the boy entered hospital his complaint was diagnosed as typhoid, secondly septicaemia, thirdly rheumatic fever, and fourthly, a -clot on the lung. He complained of the attitude and treatment given the boy by certain members of the Board's staff. The superintendent, Dr. Craven, wtio submitted the inedical reports, stated iu his report that the boy had every possible care and attention during his illness. Thc reports showed that tliose who were concerned with his treatment wero fully alive to his serious illness and were doing their utmost to ari'ivo at a correct diagnosis. . The chairman of the Board, Mr. Jolm Grierson,, said that he had called a meeting of the inyestigation eominittee for next Monday- dhe (iase should be disposed of at tho earliest possible date. In the interests of the parents the committee whs getting further reX>orts from its officers.
