WELLINGTON, May 17. 1 When the New Pivmouth message stating that a lirm had been refused a liceuce to import Union Jacks, was referred to the Complroller of Customs, Mr. D. G. Havvers, iie ' said importers had the right to import tlie same quan tity of Uuion Jacks and Em[iire iiags as in previous years. Lt was possible that this partieular importer had ex ceeded his quota or that a mistake had been made. Regartling the importation of woveu flags whieh were not made in New Zealand, the department vvould be pre pared to eonsider ipplications. It w:as clear that applications wouid have to be considored for the importation of other fornis of decorations for the Royal visit. In any case tlie deiiartment would give tlie malter con sideration. .
