Battling Dottie Lamour
Dottie Lamour is a veteran of a lot of Hollywood battles. She has been rendered hors de combat at various times. by prop cocoanuts, monkeys, bunches of bananas, stuffedi kangaroos and by a couple •of .men named Hope and Crosby— who' are -inclined to overenthusi^sm .at times in screen sequenc'es; When Dorothy won a long fought battle with Hollywood producers over the old bugaboo of type casting by winning the starring role in the dramatic "Lulu Belle," she figured that she could take a well-earned vacation from the strenuous life of a comedienne. Dottie's naive illusions of a more •;:edate life in the dramatic field were shattered on the first day of >hooting on the film. In the first eight hours, Dorothy was slapped r.eve-n times by a bit player, slugged
by a character man and thrown to ihe floor and trampled on by a group of bar-room brawler types. "Hope and Crosby were never like this," said Dot as she was .helped up from the floor after the ,v:cene had been shot. "At least they were'gentlemen enough to tip Iheir hats after they had kicked a lady." Now that she- has supplied the cutting room with her first few days'work in ^heavy" drama, the 'actress has .become more reconciled to- more- of such work ahead which will iiiclude a knock-down and drag-dut brawl with husky actor Greg McClure, some advance hair-pulling exercises with anotner actress and a bit of minor fingernail scratching on the visage of leading man George Montgomery.
