FINAL TRIALS AT AWAPUNI
Following heavy rain on Wednesday, the going was surprisingly good at Awapuni when horses racing at Otaki were given their final trials. The programme, which was an interesting one, included schooling houts over the steeplechase fences and the hurdles. Probably the star gallop on the flat was tliat of Langue d'Or (V. J. Sellars), Emerge (B. Boreham) and Horouta (D. Harris). They worked onee 'round in 1.55 1-5 and were home weii from the three in 40 1-5, which was good. Yandra (G. B. Tattersall) and Robin Tor (W. LV Aitken) worked kind'ly over five in 1.10 2-5: ■ •Sea Fury (Sellars-), and Winning T-icket (D. Harris) sprinted iive in 1.9 l-o and iinislied well. Other trials over iive were those of Kippo (L. Wagner) and Oyclone (Seilars), in 1.11 1-5, last three 43 and Lora Bradbury (W. J. Broughton) and L'stlierbeile (J. Hely) in 1.12. after running the last three in 43 3-5. Provider (Aitken) was with them to the last furlong. Field Marshall (Aitken) worked steadily over seven and Trafalgar Bay (Tattersall) and G-ay Stitehes (J. Harris) joined him. at the four, coming home well from the three in 40 4-o seeonds. They all look well after Saturday's racing and are expected to race well at Otaki. Sandy Harrison (Broughton) worked once round, covering the last seven m 1.40 2-5. One of the best gallops of the morning was tliat of Audacious (Broughton) and Nighthena (Tattersall). They covered the distance in 1.56 3-5, the last three in 42 3-5. Noble Knight (Broughton)' covereo five furlongs in 1.11 3-5, Currency Lass (Aitken) sprinted the five in 1.8 1-0, and Tremello (K. Oliristiansen) took 1.11. Newel Post (Broughton) beat Hien Urquhart (Hely) over a mile run in 2 minutes, and Gay Fellow (J. Harris) was in front of Commercial (Tatteysall) at the end of seven in 1.39 1-5. Prefa schooled well over five liurdies, Mesalliance (A. G-. Waddell) gave a good display over six hurdles, Oliristopher Wren (Miss K. Bowman) and Hinemuri (F. Buchanan) jumped soundly over six flights and others to jump well were Baksoon (A. Gr. Waddell) and Theiolyn (A. G. Waddell). Over the Country. Flak (Buchanan) and Incident (A. G. Waddell) taekled the big fences on the course proper and with plenty of pace on gave a dashing ' display over eight flights. Oemo (D. Collins) went once round over the big fences and his only mistake was at the first of the double brush. .. . .... i. Tudor Chief (P. Gray) went twice round over the inside steeplechase fences and gave a iirst-rate exhibition of jumping.
