Emerge And Playboy Favoured For Otaki Meeting
L.M.M.)
Big Task For Master Meruit At Te Rapa
. (SPECIAL — FROM
WELLINGTON, May 14. If the large fields engaged at the Otaki Maori Racing Club's winter meeting tomorrow are a criterion, then tjie club can count on holding a successful gathering, providing the weather stays fine. Otaki meetings have always beeri a big attraction to the racing -public of Wellington, Manawatu and Wairarapa, and with Toad transport available excellent support f'rom. these centres can be assured. The course superintendent, Mr. A. Meta, has the track in good order for this time of the year, and although the going is sure to be on the heavy side after this week's rain, it should not be as bad as earlier in the week if no further rain falls. Other meetings set down for tomorrow are the middle day of Waikato, the opening of the Poverty Bay and South Canterbury fixtures and the concluding day of the Auckland trots at Eosom.
Emerge can be expected to give a good account of himself in the Ta Timi Kara Handcap, the main event at Otaki. Barrage might be classed a little lucky to beat him at Woodville. Langue d'Or appears to have gone off, but botn Ivlerry Robin and Dark Arrow are weu forward. Audacious ran a splendid race at Woodville to finish third to Barrage and /Emerge. - . She wiil have conditions to her liking' tomorrow aua is a distinct' lightweight prospect. Two good mudlarks at the bottom "of the weights' are High Order 'od Foxella. If well forward this pair should revel in the running. After his magnifi'cent success at Woodville Playboy, trained at Woodville by ex-Otaki trainer Bili Morrison, will be a firm favoutT.e for the Taipua Handicap. In his present form an'd with W. J. Broughton in the saddle Playboy should be hard to beat. Although Sea Fury was certainly unlucky in Ihe running at Woodville sne w .mld never have beaten Playboy. With a strong horseman in the saddle and 9 lb. better terms Sea Fury might prove Playboy's most ' dangerous opposition, although Deprive and Bronstar will also make their presence felt. Deprive was unlucky m the running on both days at Egmont. Bronstar, after losing ground at the start of the sprint at Woodville made, up ground to linish sixth and the extra furlai/g tomorrow. will be to his advautage. Most Favoured Are: 11.0. — Rangiuru Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase (24 miles) — High Morale, Capt'ain Jesse, Grand Central. 11.40. — Waikanae Maiden No. 1 (6 furlongs) — Aubrey, Sunshine Bay, Dunkrevin. 12.25. — Pukehou Hack Handicap (6 furlongs) — Lady Oratory, Master Crusoe, Sandy Harrison. 1.10. — Ta Timi Kara Handicap (1-j miles) — Emerge, Dark Arrow, Audacious. l.oo. — Mainui Hack Handicap (14 miles) — First division — Sergeant Jack, Arctic Circle.
