Queen Wilhelmina said her reason was ffer "fficrease in years and the decline of her powers of resistance, and ability to work and of the powers whieh are indispensable in makipg responsible decisions in the profound and complicated problems of whieh there are so many at present." Queen Wilhelmina added that it was only at Princess Juliana's urgent request that she had postponed transferring the throne to her until after August 31 and the celebration of her fifty year reign. "My father was sworn m and installed on May 12, 1889, and I oelieve I can choose no better day than this to speak to you about the future. I believe I must, in the interests of you all and of the King'dom, entrust the Sovereignty to Juliana, who apart from her wise ).n?ig'hc, also has the advantage of her age and young fresh powers. 'T reached this conclusion only after ripe consideration and only your interests and my feelings of duty, were decisive."
