Kimberley Women's Institute

I Mrs. Dorne occupied the chair at 'the May meeting of the Kimberley Women's Institute, which was opened with the institute "Ode to Friendship" and the Aspirations, :Apologies were received from Mesidames Campbell, Griffith afid Neas, ; while a vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs. Crowe who had recentiy lost her brother, all members standing in silence. Members received an invitation to attend a bii'thday party at Shannon on May 22 at 8 p.m. and also to Waitarere Beach on May 12 at 2 p.m. The president welcomed two new members and birthday flowers were presented to eignt members who had a birthday In May.** A gift stall for Corso resulted in a varied cpllection of gifts to oe sold at the shop day on May 21. All arrangements were finalised and a gift of a box of fruit from the members was decided upon. A collection of soap and fat came forward for despatch- to the iink institute in England. Mesdames Evans and H. Saint were elected delegates to attend a meeting to arrange for the- U.N. Children's Appeal and it was decided by the meeting to make a donation trom the institute. Members are to bring saleable goods for a stall In June for this purpose. Mrs, Denton, delegate to tne council meeting at Tawa Flat, gave a comprehensive report and was accorded a vote of thanks. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Denton, Pickerlng and Campbell, following which ttie [meeting took the form of a social 'afternoon, it being Mother's Pay month. Members dressed up in mother's old clothes and paraded. Mrs. Greenwood sang two appropriate songs a*nd Mrs. Robinson played the piano-accordian. The competitions resulted as follows: — Best spray; Mi's. Kissane 1, Mrs. Crowe 2, Mrs, Hagan 3; best flower: Mrs. Field 1, Mrs. Evans 2, Mrs. Coulson 3; president's competition, jar of chrysanthemums: Mrs. Evans 1, Mrs. Aitcheson 2, Mesdames Field and Kissane (equal) 3. The singing of the Naticnal Anthem brought a happy afternoon to a close.
