' - A large attenaance is expectea at the ratepayers' general meeting to be held on Wednesday, May 19. R.S.A. Messrs. B. Clayton (president) and D. Aitchison (vice-president) , of the Shannon R.S.A., attended a Returned Services' Associatlon meeting held at Wanganui on Sunday to diseuss remits coming forward at the annual R.SA. conference to be held at Wellington nexfc. month. Shannon Gala Day The carnival in aid .of the hungry children of the world, which was held at the Shannon Domain last Saturday, was responsible fo.r raising over £40, whicn wfll gp 'towards ^v/elling Shannoh's f ttads/tfdr this worthy cause. Coih-. niencing at -10.30 a.rn. with irunning races for the chidren, followed by seven-a-side football matches, nfarching exhibitions, pipe band items, competitions, rourth -graae, and finishing with one of the best senior Rugby matches seen on the Shannon Domain for many yearS, the day was indeed a very full and enjoyable one for the many who attended. Winners of the running races were: Brian Richards, Nora McEwen, Raymond Harris, Clara Truman and Warren Vinsen. Winners of competitions were: M. McLean, V. J. Bateman, N. R. WoodSiaTS'TT':^le holders, Mesdames E L. Hyde, A. Birss, B. Clayton and v j. Bateman were kept very busv throughout the day, while the gatekeepers, Messrs. I. Bills * 'E. Peny and E. Chesteiy gave.tneir services free, of charge.
