She Cares For The "Lost" Children Of Sydney

A professional minder of lost children is the unusual job of an elderly, kindly Australian woman.

She is Mrs. Harriet Emblen, of jsydney, who' shelters about -100 lost children every year. Her cdreer as a "minder" began about four years ago. There was no special home for lost children, so the authorities had to find someone with a good reputation who would care for the children until they were claimed. Tney found a willing "foster-mother" in Mrs. Emblen. She is often awakened between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. — always to the same scene. A policem&n cuddling a lost ancl frightened child. Mrs. E-mblen's first job is_ to quieten and console the child, wash it, feed it and put it to bed. Sometimes she shelters as many as six children in'one week.
