Phyllis Freeman Found Guilty
DUNEDIN, May 11. A jury of 11 men tais .afternoon found Phyllis Freeman, aged 33, single, guilty of tke murder of Mrs. Joyce Maysie Morrison, aftei a- retirement of just over an h.our. Freeman was sentenced by Idr. Justice Kennedy to life iniprisonment witk liard labour. Prisoner was arrested at Enfield in September last year, after the exhuntation- of Mrs. Morrison 's dody which had been buried for five years. Gevernment analysts found a quantity of strychnine in the organs and pathologists declared that Mrs, Morrison 's death had been caused by strychnine poisoning. , At a Supreme Court trial in February, a jury, after a retirement of five hours, failed to agjree upon a verdict and a new trial w^s ordered. Today was the 12th day of .the second trial in which the evidence oi 48 Crown witnesses was heard. On the fourth day of the trial the foreman of the jury took ill suddenly and after a doctor's evidence was heard, the Judge directed that the trial should procecd with ll jurors consent havitig been given by the prosecutor and defence counsel.
