Heavy Rainfall In Otaki

Over half an inch of rain fell In .Otaki - during Wednesday night, ' according to figures supplied by Mr. F. H. Critchley, of Otaki. The heavy rain, began at 4.30 on Wednesday afternoon and contlnue'd throughout the evening uiuil the early hours of yesterday "morning. Gutters and drains were flooded and the Otaki River rose considerably during yestei'day morning. ' " Altbgether, 5.41 inches of rain fell ' in ' the district during the rfionth. of April as against 2.36 inches for the same period of 1947. Rain fell on 12 .days' during the m'onth, the heaviest fall being on Tuesday, April 20 when 415 pclnts w:ere recorded. Local flooding was experienced on that date. Snow fell on the ranges twice during the mbnth and there were four frosts of heavy intensity.
