Giving what he called "a last warning to the world", Sir John Boyd Orr, retiring Diroctor-General of United Nations Food and Ag-rienltural Organisation, said on arrival at Southampton in the Queen Elizabeth from Ameriea : — "The whole human race is rumbling to destruetion. There is only a fifty-fifty chance of solving the food problem and if it is not solved there will b6 world chaos in the next 50 years." He added that the nations of the world were insane. They were spending one-third of their national income in preparing for the next war instead of nsing the world 's steel and industrial production to conserve the resources of the land.
