Flooded Ship's Holds To Weather Storm.
Received Mondav, 8.35 p.m. SYDNEY, May 3. When the inter-.State cargo steamer Kooliga, 2459 tons, becanie unmanageable in a gale off Port Kembla, the master ordered the two after holds to be flooded. Captain C. A. Cole described the experience as one of the worst, in his 20 years 911 the Australian eoast. The ship, which was bound from Melbourne to Svdney, was driven toward the coast by tlie storm. She was in liglit trim with explosives in the forwaru* liold and the two aft holds empty. The captain wirelessed tlie owners that the ship wasv. unmanageable and then fiooded the holds to stabilise the vessel and bring the propeller lower, in three hours the ship took on 3000 tons of water and was then able to mahe port.
