LAKE DISTURBED
ROTORUA, May ,3. Two sportsmen who had been shooting at Eelio I.ake, a little-known slieet of water 1 0 aeres in extent, to the north of the Waiotapu thermal lauds, and on the Rotomulmna-.Mount Paeroa J'ault line, had an uncanny experience on Hatttrday. They had set out on the task of retrieving their birds and deeovs, when the wliole surface of the lake beeame agitated, and waves btpped the sliores, wliile the waters rose abont six inches, and as rapidly subsided. As they pushed olf into the centre of ihe lake, they found the surface coated with an oily substance that made rowing difficult. Xone of these indications of subterlaiiean activity. which undoubtedly was associated with the Xgauruhoe outbrea k, remaiued long in evidence. The Tama lakes at the lxa.se of Xgauruhoe have both sunk aliout four feet.
