Commercial Gardeners Meet

— • P >' The annual meetmg of the Levin Commercial Gardeners Association was held last week, Mr. W. Copping presiding over an attendance of ten members. Apologies were received from Messrs. C. W. Foster,. D. and E. Stewart and V. T. Whiley. The election of officers resulted as ♦follows: — President: -Mr. W. Copping; vice-president' . Mr. V. Pemberton; committee: Messrs. J. A. Kells, H. E. Orbefi and R. Pemberton; secretary: Mr. J. E. Fullarton; delegate to conference: Mr. W. Copping; substitute: Mr. M. Pescini, "The- question of new members was discussed and various* names were hanfled to the ^pcretary, with the instruction that they be contaCted and requested to join the association, A proposed visit to Massey College on Tuesday, June 15, was discussed and it was mentioned that this would be well worth while for anyone who could attend. It was hoped that a party would be sent from Levin, The subscription for the coming year was fixed at 10s per' member. . " '■

The president, in his -resume of the year's activities, stated that' he' was very pleased with the cooperation received from members over the year. Membership had increased considerably and it was hoped that this year would show a further substantial rise in membership. During the year the president received a visit from Sir Oliver and Laory Leese, wno commented very .fayourably on the improved methods of production employed in this di'strict. The season as a whole had been a difficult one due to tVie prolonaed drought, and it was anticipated that during the winter there would probably be a shortage of vegetables.
