Taxi To Collect Firemen Who Miss Brigade
» • , In future firemen who do not reaeh the station in time to le'aye with the brigade will be eollected outside the station by a taxi,.' which will reporfc there -as spon-as' the siren sounds, and be taken to the fire. This was the decision of the Levin Fire Board at its annual meeting last night in reply to a letter./, from the brigade requesting the purehase by , the board of a truck to be used to pick up -such men and return wet hose to the station. "We find," said the superinlendent, Mr. W. Saimons, in the letter, "that the men who have to use Bikes, are played out by the' tjme they get to the location of the fire." ' . . After discussing the matter, Mr. J. H. Russell suggested that an arrangement be made with a taxi firm to send a taxi to the station on every alarm, and that from then onwards it be plaeed at the disposai of the brigade. Considering the few occasions the brigade was needed, the annual eost of this' serviee would be considerably lighter 1 than • the purehase and ' maintenanee of a truek. Mention was made by the chairman, Mr. F. E. Parker, that as Levin grew iri size and population it would be necessary to consider the purehase of a second fire fighting unit. Meanwhile, he did not fchink the purehase of a truck would be of any great advantage. When Levin's population grew to 5000 it would be time to increase, not with a truck but another fire fisiitine unit.
