Escaped Prisoner Seen Lesiie John Parnell, who escaped from Mt. Crawford Prison two or three days ago, is believed to have been seen on the Napier-Taupo road today in the vicinity • of Waipunga, 65 miles from Taupo. He is believed* to be travelling in a V-8 ^car, fawn-brown in colour, the regeistration number being 108-967, which was converted from Levin. Residents in the district have been advised' to keep a care.ful watch on their petrol. Poli'ce parties from Taupo and Napier have gone out this evening to search for the man. Other Benefits Of Rain "Nov/ vthat we are getting on towards May there is not much chance of an outbreak of eczema among sheep which might have been caused by the rain eoming after the* drought conditions," reported an officer of the Livestock Division of the Department of Agriculture yesterday. "it is fortu.nately too late in tlie season for that' and getting too cold. Another benefit from the rain will be the reduction in the number of grass staggers in sheep." die offi-, cer eontinued, "This disease has been brealdng out all over the •Manawata but the rain will fix it, The rain will also arrest the decline in miik produetipn." Revival Of Fire Police That the special corps of fire police inaugurated during the war be r.estarted was the suggestion of the Levin Fire ;Brigade in a letter to the Levin'1 Fire Board last night. The chairman, Mr. F. E, Parker, discussing the questiop, said that he had spoken to somo of the old members who had indicated that if they were needed they would all "appear out " of the blue" and render assistance, To resurrect the corps would mean that they would have to be sworn in every year, and if they had not much work to *do they would soon lose intprest. He suggested to members- that the matter be kept in view, but meanwhile no jaction be taken. This was agreed, to by members.
