Long Trips By Taxi Are Now Banned
WELLINGTON, April 20. Long distance taxi trips from the four mai 11 centyes are to be banned except in urgeiit cases. This decision. vhich follows discussions with the executive of the. New Zealand Taxi Federation, w.as annouuced bv the Minister of Trauspovt, hlr. Ilaekett, this afterhoon. The .Minister said the object was to save petrol and the only trips involved would be lho,.-!e oi 20 miles (one way) or more. Permissio'n to exceed that distance would be granted only in case of urgeney sueh as sic.kn.esa or bereavemenl, and taxi drlvers would have to obtain permits.
