O: Burtt) ; , was. also present. • ■ . : It was.decided that ;. the Anzae Day Services would be conducteii'at the schbol-on Friday, April 23, conimencing at 2 p.m.,.' wlipin representatives of the local .branch of the R.S.A. would address the children. ' * * The secretary was instructed to pr'ocure a supply of coke for the school heating system, and also td make arrangements to have the school chimneys swept. . It was agreed that the grass section of the. playgrounds shoul'd be harrowed to remove native grasses, which have made their appearance in certain sections. • The headmaster presented his monthly report, which was as follows: — "The roll at the end of the month of March was 139 boys and 136 girls. During „ the month nine pup.ils were admitted and ten withdrawn, while the attendance averaged 264 pupils. : - There have been no. staff ' changes 'during the month. •"After 'a month of correspondence teaching, -the pupils returned to school .on March 1, and quickly settled dov^n to work. Only.a few failed to complete the corr.espondence lessonsj and they have since been requir.ed to do it: The supply pf school milk ceased on March 5. A visit was made by Patrol Officer Silverwood, of the Wellington. Automobile Association, and badges of cffice were presented to the newly-appointed road. safety wardens. These boys continue to do excellent work in the interests of road safety. The -district nurse, Sister Macdonald, conducted her routine inspection and inoculated the Maori pupils. Visits wele paid by Mr. W. Hesse, supervisor of agriculture for the Wellington Education Board, Mr. J. Phillips, the foreman of works for the board, and Miss M. L. Steven, the dental health .education nurs,e. ."A well attended meeting of 'the Parents'.and. Teachers' Association was" held ' during 1 the month a'nd Jthe guest'speaker -was Mr. G. Ball, whose sub j ect . was , the " ' United Nations/ Scie'ntific and Cultural O'rganisation., A very successful fair was held at the sclio'ol knd the moneyZ raised '^will he 'sufficient to establish a much needed library of reference books aird fiction, and a small library of .fi^m strips.
