Electricity Cuts And Water Heaters
"VIGILAJJT."
(To the Editor) Sir, — Does the Electricity Control Order, 1948, compel the Horowhenua ELectric Power Board to enforce such drastic restrictions to a most. necessary service to its consumers who have no other water heating system? Why has the chairman of the board taken it upon himself to order the consumers to bath only on Saturday and Sunday of each week and compel the housewife to do the family washing on, the same days? Of course, -those consumers that can afford it can purchase an electric jug, a plug-in type water heater, or an electric copper, and get as much ho"t water as they need. The only difference is that they pay the higher rate through a diff.erent pieter. I notice it is the cheapest rate that always gets the first cut. One very unfair point is that the weekender who comes to his weekend palace, perhaps from an outside district, can enjoy the weekend water heating at the expense of Ihe permanent consumer, who is denied it during the week. Throughout New Zealand any store, except the butcher, sells electrical appliances and accessories |in spite of registered electricians jserving their Jifetime for experilence. to protect the public, The | riiore restrictions that are imposed j the more illegal and hazardbus electrical work goes on. Ask any "supply authority if that is not correct. It would be interesting to have a list of the other supply authorities in New Zealand, if any, that have restricted electric water i heating to two days per week. Ynurs pI.c
