Boys' Band Reviews Year's Activities
The Levin Boys' Military Band holds its annual meeting tomorrow night. The year commenced with a combined* bands' display to which the Palmerston North City Silver and seven other bands were invited, states the annual report. As a result of this the Horowhenua Bands' Committee was formed and the boys' band took. part in -displays. at Otaki and Foxton. - In April of last year the bandwas changed over to a. military combination and the necessary instruments available,. were pur-, chased, continued the report. The work of teaching the boys had proved quite successful and the band's first appearance was at the Levin Farm. It had also given a benefit concert for the Otaki Sanatorium, £19 being raised. Just when the band was ready to appear in public the infantile paralysis restrictions had 'been imposed, reduc-1 ing its numbers to nine boys over the age limit. The band had undertaken two days' carolling and had been amply rewarde'd *for its efforts. Thanks were due to those who had assisted and provided refreshments. The band had been ref ormed in March last, said the report in conclusion, and at its first' function introducedsthe Hutt Civic Military Band. Dunng the year £187 had been spent on instruments, bringing, the band's assets to nearly £260. Revenue was raised by the efforts of the committee and boys. and donations and associate members.
