Farm School A farm school will be held in Levin shortly, when lectures on varied subjects will be held over two days and possibly one evening. Lectures will be given chiefly by officials of the Department of Agriculture and one in particular, which will be bf interest to. most farmers, will be an address on drainage. Fencing Wire Problem Sopieone was taking advantage of the shortage of fencing wire' and was importing an inferior grade into the country, which was being sold at a very., high price, commented a meihber of the Levin branch of Federated Farmers at the annual' meeting on 'Friday night. Who wgs responsible for this, he asked. It was alleged that the wire was second-hand and very nearly useless. In many cases every coil had to be joined several times.. Farmers were paying £84 a ton for the wire and it was felt that they were not ge.tting value for their money. Dancing and Court Procedure Faced with the task of grooming New Zealand's social young by autumn of next year, dancing teachers have been showing a specially keen interest in plans for the Royal visit. A visiting examiner, not long out from England, and just returned from Auckland, said she received numerous inquiries in the northern city from teachers keen to know what to concentrate on. The English style of ballroom dancing, Court procedure and presentation ceremonies were most important in her view. So some enterprising people quite obviously think eleven months or. more none too long to prepare ior such an historic occasion. Review of Butter Ration "I am having the whole subject of the amount of the b.utter ration re-examined in the light of our own needs and the requirements of the British people. If it is possible for any relief to be given in our own ration scale this will be done at the earliest opportunity," stated a letter from the- Minister of Supply, Mr. Nordmeyer, received at a meeting of the Sou'thland Trades Council. The letter added that the difficulty being experienced in securing the full requirements of raw sugar and in having it distributed thjoughout the country made it impossible for sugar rationing to be lifted at present, but this would be done as soon as practicable. Petrol for Farm Trucks Advice regarding petrol for farrfiers owning trucks and not cars was. received from the secretary of th£ Manawatu provincial district of Federated Farmers, at the annual meeting of the Levin branch on Friday night. He forwarded a copy of a letter from the Oil Fuel Controller in which it was stated that although it was not the general policy to issue licenses in lieu of coupons to farmers who had no means of conveyance other than a farm "H" truck, he "was prepared, where hardship was lnvolve'd, to consider each case on its merits. It was suggested that persons concerned should lodge individual application, giving the fullest details, with their local oil fuel controller, who wolud then forward the application to his office for consideration. An invitation is extended to all ladies interested to atteend the social afternoon which- tlie Levin branch of the Labour Party is holding in the Oddfellows' Hall tomorrow. •
