Annual Meeting of Shannon R.S.A.

^ > The annual general meeting of the Shannon branch of the Returned Services' Association was held in Laurvig's Hall on Saturday evening, Mr. J. Ritchie presi'ding over an attendance of 21 members, The retiring president . outlined the year's activities of the braneh, following which the balance sheet for the year was presented by the secretary, Mr. E. J. Guniiing. This' showed the branch to be in quite a good financial position. On the motion of Mr. R. Hook, the balance sheet was adopted. At this stage of the meeting the president cafled for nominations . for the various officers for the coming year. Those elected were as follows: — ^President: Mr. B. Clayton; vice-presidents: Messrs. R. S. Downes, H. D. Aitchison and F. G. Burtt; treasurer: Mr. V. J. Bateman; auditor: Mr. J. T. Bovis; executive committee: The president, three vice-presidents, secretary, ' treasurer, Messrs. R. Quinlan, J. Ritchie, and D. Purcell; entertainment committee; Messrs. D. Purcell, B. Clayton, D. Aitchison, j. Ritchie, R. S. Downes, I. Falconer and E. Veale, with- power to add; official delegate: Mr. J. Ritchie? assistant delegate: To be appoihted by the Tokomaru sub-branch. The position of branch secretary was left open, Mr. E. J: Gunning wishing to retire, but he will cbntinUe mean while.. Following a discussion "with regard to Saturday night being a suitable night for monthly meetings, it was decided to forward a circular to each member in - an endeavour to ascertain which they considered the most favourable night. Correspondence was received from the N.Z.R.S.A. regarding mernbership. A letter from the town clerk, Shannon, advise'd regarding subsidies on R.S.A. rooms in community centres erected as.. war memorials. - A letter of thanks was received ;from Mr. H. B. Burdekin for the Shannon branch's faith in nominating him for the position of Dominion vice-president. Arrangements were made for the sale of poppies by the Women's Section dn Poppy pay this year.- ' Messrs. B. Clayton, R.' -Hook, and J. T. Bovis were ;appointed to address the school children on" a suitable date prior ;to Anzac Day.
